Changing to 256 Colors
If your PC is set at 16 colors the main program may work but it will
look grainy. If Your PC is capable of 256 colors the video interface
in this program should allow you to see the 256 color illustrations.
If it does not, you can try changing your video setup.
If your video card and video drivers support it, you can
change from 16 colors from inside Windows. Most new desktop
PCs will support 256 colors, but many come out of the box set up
for 16 colors.
The easiest way to change video modes is to use the special
program that came with your computer which has drivers that
match your particular video board. This may already be
installed or may be on a floppy disk that was provided with
your PC. It may install from its own program with an icon or
you may have to manually load the driver using Windows Setup.
Changing Win95 setup
R-click on the Desktop background and then click on
PROPERTIES---SETTINGS. Here, you can change the resolution
on the fly. To change the color depth (i.e. 16 colors to 256 colors)
you will have to reboot after you change the settings.
Changing Win3.1 Setup
Click on WINDOWS SETUP-OPTIONS-CHANGE and you will
see a list of drivers that you can try and load. But you are better
off using the special driver that came with your PC and is
designed for your video board. Some of the generic drivers in
Setup may cause your screen to go completely blank and make it
difficult to reinstall the old driver. If you try any of these
new drivers, BE SURE to first save a backup of your System.ini
file. So, if it all disappears into the PC void, you can (in DOS)
reinstall your old file which will load the original video driver.
Be aware, that if you load a video driver using software
other than Windows Setup, the Windows Setup may still display
the old windows video driver and not the newly loaded one. The
new one should work anyway.
